Become a volunteer Washington County board member

Are you passionate about mental health advocacy? Ready to shape the future of support and awareness? Come join our dynamic team of individuals who are committed to fostering inclusivity, innovation, and positive change in mental health initiatives. We are seeking dedicated individuals who have been touched by mental health issues in some way, to join the Board of the NAMI Washington County affiliate.

As a board member, you will help guide our mission to provide vital resources, support, and education to those affected by mental health challenges, and ensure we reach more individuals in need. The typical time commitment is an average of 2 hours a month.
Be part of the State Legislative Advocacy Committee

The legislative committee is a volunteer group of those living with mental illnesses as well as their families working to influence legislation and public policies that affect the lives of children and adults living with mental illness, their families, and the professionals who care for them. The Legislative Committee meets monthly and is always looking for more volunteers to help achieve their vision.

Facilitate a support group

All NAMI groups follow a structured support group model and are led by trained co-facilitators who have lived experience with mental illness. Facilitators must complete a nationally recognized, evidence-based, peer to peer 2-day training provided through NAMI MN. Reach out to learn more.

We know that individuals seeking support around mental health symptoms thrive when they are supported by someone who shares a similar identity and lived experience as them. We are eagerly looking for support group facilitators to serve our diverse communities! If you are bilingual, identify as BIPOC, are a veteran, identify with a specific religion or faith community, have a disability, identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community, etc. and are interested in starting a support group, please contact us. We would love to do all we can to support the process!

Partner & Spouse Support Group

This group is for spouses, domestic partners, and significant others of a person living with mental health symptoms. This group is specifically geared towards souses and partners and addresses the unique experience of this role. As a facilitator, you will share, support, and educate individuals on the impacts of mental health symptoms within intimate relationships and explore resources that are available.

Family Support Group

Family support groups provide ongoing support for families and friends of persons living with mental health symptoms. As a facilitator, you will educate, share, and guide individuals on the journey of supporting family and friends living with mental health symptoms that impact their daily life.

Connections Support Group

NAMI’s Connection Recovery Support Group Program is a peer-based, mutual support group for adults living with a mental health condition. These groups provide a place that offers respect, understanding, encouragement, and hope.  It is our vision that every person in this country who lives with a mental health condition will have, within reasonable driving distance, a NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group to attend.  We do not currently have a peer support group in Washington County and believe this could be a great support for the community. Connection Recovery Support Group facilitators will be trained by NAMI Minnesota and follow a structured model.
